Probably few men have been spiritually convicted by reading a license plate. Yet, there I was, sitting in my driveway staring downward at my NC plate that I was removing from the back of my car. I had never noticed it before – the motto for my former state: “To be, rather than to seem.” I read it over several times. I found out that the Roman philosopher Cicero wrote it two millennia ago. And I thought to myself, “Does any singular statement summarize the point of the Christian life better than that phrase?”
We are transformed by Christ to BE something different.Authenticity isn’t something that should SEEM to be true in our lives but rather, it should be something that is ACTUALLY TRUE of us. When I think of the men who have influenced my life, to a man, they were the real deal. No fakers. No posers. They WERE what they SEEMED to be.
